Bluetooth Mobile Connection to the Internet using a computer and a mobile phone

It is assumed that you have arranged for GPRS or better with your mobile service provider, installed the relevant PC suite (for Nokia phones this is called the Nokia PC suite) on your computer, and Bluetooth pairing has already been setup between your phone and computer.

  1. Turn on Bluetooth
On your mobile phone, turn on Bluetooth connection if not already on.
On Laptop ensure your Bluetooth is enabled and on. Check the following:
    • Switch radio on using a hardware switch or keyboard key combination (On some computers this could be Fn + F2).
    • Check the Bluetooth icon in the System tray (Bottom right next to your clock). A green icon means it is enabled, a red icon means it is disabled. Right click on it and select Enable or Disable accordingly.
Your computer and mobile should automatically connect if within range.

  2. Connect to the internet by right clicking the PC Suite icon in the system tray and then select Connect to the Internet.

With both Bluetooth and either wireless or LAN enabled you need to be careful about internet access as this could incur high mobile costs when connecting via your mobile phone. When you are finished with your internet connection, right click the PC Suite icon in the system tray and then select Disconnect from the Internet. To be extra safe, if you do not intend to connect to the internet using your mobile, make sure your Bluetooth is disabled on the computer (see above).

If you have previously been unsuccessful in using Internet Explorer on the internet, then it may be set to “Work Offline”. In Internet Explorer, click the Tools button on the command bar, and in the resulting drop down list, make sure “Work Offline” is unticked. Alternatively if you have your Internet Explorer menu displayed, select File on the menu and make sure “Work Offline” is unticked.
